Chapter 31 was granted a charter from the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC), Inc. on May 8, 1959. It is comprised of members mostly residing in the metropolitan area of Portland, Oregon and SW Washington from all walks of life; from blue collar to white collar, and both men and women.
Members of the chapter are bonded together by the love of timekeeping, and associated interest. There are members that only collect either watches, or clocks, or repair what they have. Others will disassemble their timepieces, make the necessary repairs, and put the clock into 'timekeeping service'. Some do repairs for a living or extra income.
Some collectors have a few clocks or watches, but are mainly interested in clock and watch tool collecting. This is an important piece of Horology and fits into the puzzle of collections as much as clocks and watches.
Chapter 31 supports the education of its members by having monthly programs, telling and teaching different topics on the hobby. From this, members can grow in their knowledge in how clocks and watches work and the history of the industry. You can take Horology as far a field as you desire, researching, writing, repairing, or what ever your interest may be, and comes back around to what you make of the hobby that counts.
