Greetings! We are getting close to our 2017 Regional -- July will be here before you know it. Have you signed up? See the Regional page on this site for info.
Speaking of summer activities: Ed and Kathy Beacham have kindly offered to host us for our summer picnic. They have offered the dates Aug. 13 or Aug. 27 (both are a Sunday). George Matto has opined that the 27th would be better, giving us all time to recover from the Regional. Please let me know what you think; there are logistics to be considered with a trip out to Sisters -- with enough participants we could consider chartering a bus. Makes for a longish day, travelling there and back, but a chance to hang with the Beacham's and talk clocks is very attractive. For any who have not seen their store and shop, you have a treat in store.
Around the shop: small progress on the great wheel clock; the barrel has been turned and I'm starting on the two end pieces. The 3D printer has been luring me away from clock building. Some interesting experiments with brass filled plastic (PLA) filament; it does not polish up quite as well as I'd hoped, but may have some uses in the decorative parts of a clock. I'm now experimenting with printing of tools: custom tweezers.
See you next Sunday (May 21st) for our watch presentation by Robert Gordon; should be a good one.
