Presidents Message

Dear Members,
Here we are in the second month of 2016 already and we have many events coming up this year so, time to wake up from our winter slumber.  It looks like an early Spring and we are "springing into action" regarding the activities of your Chapter.
The January Chapter meeting was preceded by a Council meeting and minutes are presented in Secretaries notes below.

TIME TO VOTE (not the Oregon Primary) YOUR VOTE AT THE CHAPTER LEVEL IS IMPORTANT TOO!
This is your chance to give back to the Chapter.  It's your chance to help shape the Chapter.  If nothing else do a "write in" vote for yourself or a good natured gesture for "someone you need to get even with" .

Don't wait to be asked, (you will be) ask what you can do for your chapter or suggest an activity or program you would like to see on the schedule.  Check out the future meetings section below and plan to attend and participate.

Chapter 31 generally meets at the  Beaverton Library the following months being the exception:
March--Library not available
May--Pacific NW Regional (Portland / Tacoma alternate years)
July or August depending on when we hold the Annual Chapter Picnic.
December--Holiday Party
Any Month--Possible field trip

A couple weeks back as promised, I attended the West Linn Clock Class where a lot was happening.  Rod Lloyd was doing a fine job of mentoring where needed.  Terry White and son-in-law were installing a newly purchased glass in a nice mantle clock requiring some tricky soldering of the binding wires right at the location of the soldered door hinge.  A newer student was diagramming (and a good job at that) the wheel location of his 8 day T&S taking the cautious approach of disassembling.  When is end shake too much?  When the wheels fall out even though the plates are tight to the posts.  Seems a past repairer bent the plates along a vertical line.  Another new student was studying the workings of cuckoo clock mechanisms in preparation for attempting a repair.  I had brought tools, bulletins and Timesaver catalogs for the newbies.   The "time" slipped by and before I knew it--time to head back home.  If I shoot to attend once a month to help out, I may make it half of the time given other commitments.
Happy Valentines Day !

Respectfully, George Matto, President
